At the start of 2016, Jake joined the Indigenous Australian Engineering Summer School, hosted by The University of Sydney. Jake lived on campus for six days and eagerly experienced a range of engineering workshops focused on study and careers.
During our last school holidays, Year 12 student Damien attended the Winter School at The University of New South Wales. This fantastic opportunity allowed Damien to live at the university for a week and experience all that university has to offer.
To celebrate NAIDOC this year, we took part in an exciting variety of events both inside and outside of the school.
Monday - reconciliation-themed art activities, where Indigenous students each invited a non-Indigenous student to participate. Their boomerangs used Aboriginal symbolism and fostered meaningful conversations between all the students.
Tuesday - we were lucky enough to visit from Clayton Donovan - Australia's first Indigenous chef to be awarded a "hat" rating.
Thursday - Steve Lombardi joined us for dancing and story-telling.
Jannali has been selected as a feature dancer in the hip-hop ensemble for Schools Spectacular. This very popular performing arts showcase is highly competitive, and Jannali's talent for dance shone through. The event will be held in Sydney in November.
